Tobacco use is the single most preventable cause of disease, disability, and death in the U.S. The Community Cancer Center (CCC) has partnered with Douglas Public Health Network (DPHN) to offer a Smoke-Free Workplace cessation program in alignment with Oregon’s Tobacco Prevention and Education Program (TPEP).
Employer-sponsored cessation programs focus on the reduction of smoking, vaping, chewing, and secondhand smoke exposure among organizational workers. Giving employees the support they need will lead to big benefits for your business. Benefits may include a healthier workforce, increased productivity, reduced absenteeism, positive company image, cost savings, regulatory compliance, and long-term health benefits.
Smoking remains a significant public health concern worldwide, causing health issues and impacting workplace productivity. In response to this challenge, more companies recognize the value of offering smoking cessation programs to their employees. The CCC is prepared to help the employers throughout Douglas County in the facilitation of employer-sponsored cessation programming.
The CCC will facilitate the FRESHSTART 4-Week Stop Smoking Program at the employer’s worksite.
There are No Fees to participate in this program.
Each employer can sponsor/host up to two programs per year.
Program delivery availability is Monday – Wednesday. (Some exceptions may apply.)
Each week, participants learn new skills and tools to support their quit journey in this 4-week program. Delivered over four consecutive sessions, each lasting about an hour, the program includes in-depth discussions, firsthand activities, and introduces tools to aid successful cessation. Offered in-person twice a year in January and July, this program is also available as a Workplace Wellness option for employers upon request.
Session One – Participants learn about the risks of addictive behaviors, how addiction impacts their health, and the importance of choosing to quit.
Session Two – Participants start developing their personal quit plans, which can be a highly triggering exercise and discussions.
Session Three – Participants explore what to expect on their quit day and gain insight into the physical and mental withdrawal symptoms of quitting. They also begin to identify their personal triggers, recognize patterns of addictive behaviors and thoughts, and consider alternative responses to both.
Session Four – Participants discover tools and techniques for sustaining their quit status. Additional resources, such as self-care practices, situational rehearsals, and coping strategies to aid their journey are available.
Building and sustaining physical health and wellness is a lifelong journey. The FRESHSTART Stop Smoking Program provides knowledge, skills, and strategies to help individuals quit tobacco and develop a healthier lifestyle. Designed to support participants in envisioning and reaching their personal tobacco-free goals, this innovative program offers training for both community education and cessation services, suitable for individuals and groups. FRESHSTART is a free program, open to anyone eighteen and older, and complements services offered by other providers or peer support groups.
